Seeking Tutors for AP Biology
Position Description:
Assist teaching the AP Biology class at Thurgood Marshall Academic High School, and provide small group tutoring to 10 AP Biology students once a week after school. Tutors will attend the AP Biology class, and meet with the students for one hour after the class to do review sessions, help them with assignments, and prepare for weekly quizzes or exams. Tutors will also meet with the instructor after each tutoring session to discuss the performance of the students, as well as the current week’s or the following week’s topics. Other assistance may include working with students on labs during the class, answering students’ questions, feedback to the instructor.
Responsibilities:
Plan your tutoring lessons in detailed and discuss it with the instructor before tutoring. Commit to meeting with your assigned students regularly; observe the AP Biology class from 2:15PM-3:00PM once a week (on the day of tutoring), which can count toward your observation hours; Tutor your students after school from 3:30PM-4:30PM. Be proactive to support your students on their academic performance.
Track your students’ attendance and assessment results with the instructor. Be punctual for all scheduled tutoring sessions. You have to notify us at least one day prior to the tutoring session, if you cannot meet with your students. Complete all the required paperwork for documentation and evaluation.
Qualifications:
Show academic excellence in biology; Having B or above in major classes are preferred Undergraduate seniors and graduate students are preferred Responsible, dependable, honest, and mature. Friendly, patient, and sensitive to a diversity of students. To work in a San Francisco School, you must also apply to the San Francisco School Alliance.
