Cerebellum – once known as Standard Deviants – has been producing K-8 educational DVDs for two decades. They are a San Francisco company, as is Kiyomura-Ishimoto Associates (KI), which organizes these focus groups for Cerebellum when it wants to create or update a course.
The two-hour discussion group will be held shortly after Memorial Day in the evening, at Cerebellum’s office in southeastern SF. About six teachers, grades six-seven-eight, are sought to advise on the lesson plan. Each will be served dinner, receive $100, and their choice of a single-course DVD from Cerebellum’s extensive collection. In addition, KI will provide $25 to each participant for their choice of an educational nonprofit or receive it to defray their classroom expenses. KI has donated about $1500 to teachers and nonprofits such as DonorsChoose and Asian American Curriculum Project.

Dear Student,

The California Student Aid Commission offers a significant student loan forgiveness program for students who plan to become teachers in California.

The Assumption Program of Loans for Education (APLE) is a financial aid program for future teachers in the form of student loan pay back. It is designed to encourage California undergraduates and credential students to become teachers in “teacher-shortage” areas and high-need schools.

The especially important benefit of the APLE awards is that they repay between $11,000 and $19,000 in outstanding educational loan balances for future teachers. This is in return for four consecutive years of qualifying teaching service in a California K-12 public school.

Currently, more than 3,000 APLE awards remain available for California State University students, but they must be awarded by June 30, 2012. Juniors and seniors who are interested in teaching, as well as teacher credential students in several fields, are eligible for awards.

If you are a student who plans to become a public school teacher in California and have not yet taken advantage of this program, we urge you to do so. In order to ensure that you receive an APLE 2011-12 award, you should apply now.

You can obtain the easy-to-fill-out application for an APLE award at:

www.csusuccess.org/APLE

It is critical that you apply for an APLE award by June 30, 2012. Doing so will enable you to receive an APLE award this year. The availability of APLE loan repayment funds in future years, including funding for teachers already participating in the program, is subject to continued state funding.

We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity immediately and wish you much success in your educational and professional endeavors.

Sincerely,

CSU Chancellor’s Office

Overview: We are in the process of developing some test items for high school science teachers related to energy concepts. These test items will eventually be part of an online graduate course for teachers. As part of our development process, we would like to have some high school science teachers take the tests to see how well the test items perform.

How You Can Help

You can help us by clicking on one or more of the links below to take a short test on energy and energy concepts. Each test has 25-35 items and will take approximately 30-45 minutes to complete.

There is a mix of open-ended and free-response items. We will also ask for some basic background information (e.g., what grade and subjects you teach, your years of experience, etc.). Please note—you do NOT need to be an expert in an area to take a test. We welcome all high school science teachers to take any of the tests.

Please click on a link below to participate! Please note: you must be a high school science teacher to qualify.
